A nostalgic classical night.
Rafael Payare conducts the Orchestre de Paris in a program that bridges the elegance of Mozart with the intense drama of Shostakovich. The concert opens with Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for winds, featuring a quartet of woodwinds in a refined dialogue with the orchestra. The second half features Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10, a powerful and tragic work composed following the death of Stalin. The symphony is noted for its epic scale, epic scherzo, and the recurring 'DSCH' motif that serves as a musical signature of the composer's struggle during the Soviet era.
