The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin, presents a luminous program featuring mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato. The evening opens with Kaija Saariaho's Lumière et Pesanteur (2009), a shimmering arrangement dedicated to Esa-Pekka Salonen. This is followed by Gustav Mahler's Rückert-Lieder, which showcases the composer's lyrical evolution through the poems of Friedrich Rückert. The performance concludes with Mahler's Symphony No. 4, his most bucolic and transparent symphonic work, ending with a celestial vision of paradise.
