An underground, gritty spoken word night.
Sergeant crafts music like a whimsical film edit, cutting and pasting sounds into a whirlpool of unexpected turns. The trio—filmmaker Benjamin Cools, actor Ferre Marnef, and Geraldine Vanspauwen—strikes a fragile balance between the sharp edges of post-punk, the drive of krautrock, and an unpredictable pop energy. Their sound is a plunderphonic chaos of broken rhythms and clashing textures, reminiscent of The Avalanches playing with distorted bells and dubby basslines. Flutes and melodies splinter into chaotic rides, evoking comparisons to Micachu & The Shapes or Sonic Youth. Live, the band pushes their music to experimental heights, rearranging tracks into something even more untamed. The room fills with a controlled stumble—a sound that keeps running long after it has lost its sense of direction.
