Sergeant crafts music like a whimsical film edit, cutting and pasting sounds into a whirlpool of unexpected turns. The trio—filmmaker Benjamin Cools, actor Ferre Marnef, and Geraldine Vanspauwen—strikes a fragile balance between the sharp edges of post-punk, the drive of krautrock, and an unpredictable pop energy. Their sound is a plunderphonic chaos of broken rhythms and clashing textures, reminiscent of The Avalanches playing with distorted bells and dubby basslines.
