Playgrounds Sessions: Babette Zwinkels & Engel Gaardner
An open-air, underground nederpop night.
Rotterdam singer-songwriter Babette Zwinkels and songwriting duo Engel Gaardner perform in the HBS Garden during the final free Playgrounds Session of the summer. The outdoor series brings live music, food and cold drinks to the garden at Lab Grounds. Babette Zwinkels creates dreamy pop with a touch of cabaret. Her songs explore love, the desire to be seen and the discomfort that comes with being human, carried by a clear voice and honest storytelling. She performs live with multi-instrumentalist Thomas Heikoop. Engel Gaardner consists of visual artist and songwriter Olivia Degen and guitarist Benjamin de Raad. The duo makes detailed, atmospheric music inspired by artists such as Jessica Pratt, Nick Drake and João Gilberto. Their debut album was recorded on tape and is scheduled for release through Tiny Room Records in autumn 2026.
