A nostalgic classical night.
An imposing Germanic program featuring two orchestral triumphs. The evening begins with Beethoven's Symphony No. 3, known as the 'Eroica', a work of immense evocative power whose funeral march serves as its emotional peak. This is followed by Richard Strauss's Also sprach Zarathustra, a masterpiece of instrumental imagination and brilliance that Nietzsche himself associated with the symphonic form. The Philharmonia Orchestra is led by conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen.
