A nostalgic, underground opera night.
As part of the Early Music Days festival, the Greek National Opera presents a double bill dedicated to the era of Beethoven. The first part, Songs in Shifting Times, features soprano Fanie Antonelou and Gerasimos Hoidas on the fortepiano, performing vocal works by Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven that captured the aesthetic upheavals of the late 18th century. The second part features a performance of Beethoven's popular Septet, Op. 20. A group of seven distinguished musicians performs this youthful masterpiece on period instruments, recreating the authentic sound that made it an immediate success upon its 1800 debut in Vienna.
