A nostalgic, homegrown choral night.
The third day of the Byzantine Music Days festival, curated by Zaharias Karounis, focuses on the reverent liturgical cycle of Holy Week and Christ’s Resurrection. This musical pilgrimage explores the 'genres' of Byzantine theory and contemporary psaltic schools through the hymns of the Bridegroom services, the Holy Passion, and the Epitaphios Lament. The performance brings together celebrated chief cantors and established Byzantine choirs to create a polyphonic tableau of modern-day psaltic art, aiming to expand the reach of this ancient Greek musical tradition to contemporary audiences at the GNO Alternative Stage.
