Jérémie keert terug naar het slaperige dorpje waar hij opgroeide om de uitvaart bij te wonen van zijn vroegere baas, de bakker. Dat hij na lange afwezigheid terugkeert, veroorzaakt opschudding in de kleine gemeenschap: terwijl weduwe Martine en de plaatselijke priester al snel gefascineerd door hem raken, moet Martine’s zoon Vincent niets van hem hebben. De spanning tussen de twee mannen loopt hoog op als Jérémie niet van plan blijkt te vertrekken. Wanneer Vincent plotseling zelf verdwijnt, komt Jérémie in een wanhopige situatie terecht – tot hij zich realiseert dat zijn charme de weg naar zijn verlossing kan zijn.
