Interdisciplinary artist Nazanin Noori presents the Berlin premiere of A LETTER TO EUROPE, a spoken word opera addressing migration, borders, and displacement in contemporary Europe. Based on a poem by Athena Farrokhzad, the work combines voice, percussion, and electronics with a score composed by Noori and Andrea Belfi. The performance features classical Iranian singing alongside spoken-word performers and drummers, reflecting the movement between political and affective registers. Drawing on the myth of Europa as a structural parallel, the work situates critiques of Europe within histories of forced movement and asymmetrical power relations. The performance involves two spoken-word performers and two drummers who establish a counter-structure of rhythm against an electronic score that echoes institutional frameworks.
