A nostalgic, bleak classical night.
Royal Festival Hall, 337-338 Belvedere Rd, London SE1 8XU, UK
From the depths of despair, a woman’s voice soars pure and free. Written in 1976 in Communist-occupied Poland, Henryk Górecki’s Third Symphony was a powerful statement of hope that became a global phenomenon, touching hearts on every continent. Tonight, the London Philharmonic Orchestra performs this haunting ‘Symphony of Sorrowful Songs’ featuring the award-winning Polish soprano Iwona Sobotka. The programme also includes Prokofiev's Fifth Symphony, a journey from grief to glory.
