An underground choral night.
Modern sacred music takes center stage in this program of delicate spiritual inspiration. The performance features Benjamin Britten's cantata Rejoice in the Lamb, a celebration of creation based on the 18th-century poetry of Christopher Smart. The program also highlights the connection between Britten and Arthur Oldham, the founder of the Chœur de l'Orchestre de Paris, with a performance of Oldham's Subtle and graceful In Praise of the Virgin. Additionally, the concert presents Jean Sibelius' Pelléas et Mélisande suite in an arrangement by Richard Wilberforce for chorus, alongside the rhythmic energy of Leonard Bernstein's Chichester Psalms, which brings Hebrew texts to life with the composer's characteristic verve.
