A nostalgic big band night.
The Mingus Big Band exclusively performs the compositions of the renowned American musician Charles Mingus. Established by Sue Mingus, this 14-piece ensemble brings to life large-scale arrangements that Mingus envisioned but couldn't always realize. The group's dynamic approach promotes creative exploration and evolving interpretations of his work, maintaining the spirit of Mingus' Jazz Workshop. Drawing from a rotating pool of New York City's top veteran and emerging jazz talent, the band is known for its spontaneity and artistry. With seven Grammy nominations and a win for 'Live at Jazz Standard', the ensemble continues its legacy through the Mingus Mondays residency at The Pocket.
