A nostalgic, underground chamber music night.
The Zoffany Ensemble performs Johannes Brahms’s Serenade no. 1 in D major, Op.11. This performance features a reconstruction of the work’s original chamber version for nine instruments, which was first played in 1859 before the composer expanded it into an orchestral piece. The reconstruction by Jorge Rotter aims to capture the transparent and intimate sound world of the lost manuscript, positioning the piece as a significant chamber masterpiece alongside the septets and octets of Beethoven and Schubert.
