A raw, nostalgic chamber music night.
Part of Timothy Ridout's Viola Day at Wigmore Hall, this concert explores a remarkable flowering of music for the viola from the first half of the last century. Inspired by the influence of Lionel Tertis and composer-performers like Cecil Forsyth and Paul Hindemith, the programme features works by York Bowen, Frank Bridge, and Benjamin Britten. Highlights include the Passacaglia from Hindemith’s expressionist Sonata for solo viola and the virtuosic Carmen Fantasie by Franz Waxman.
