A nostalgic, slow-burn opera night.
Gluck’s rarely performed operatic masterpiece, Iphigénie en Tauride, makes its English National Opera debut in a new staging by Olivier Award-winning director Lyndsey Turner. The story follows Iphigénie and her brother Oreste, children of the blood-soaked dynasty of Greek history, who are reunited by hope after being divided by destiny. Stranded on a remote island and forced to serve a terrifying ruler, Iphigénie dreams of home while her brother Oreste is driven to the edge of madness. This production offers a new interpretation of the classic family legacy of violence and hope.
