Joel Mandelbaum tribute concert
A raw, nostalgic classical night.
A tribute to New York composer Joel Mandelbaum, celebrating his legacy and his connection to the Fokker organ. In 1963, Mandelbaum visited the Fokker organ in Haarlem, where creator Adriaan Fokker introduced him to the 31-tone instrument. This performance recreates that historic meeting through a program that pairs Mandelbaum's works with music by other composers present at the time. Mandelbaum's compositions explore microtonal tuning, translating complex musicological theories into accessible pieces for organ, conventional instruments, and voice.
