One of the most talented violinists of the younger generation, María Dueñas performs the habanera rhythms of Lalo's Symphonie espagnole. This masterpiece for violin virtuosos premiered in Paris in 1875 by Pablo de Sarasate and paved the way for many Spanish-inspired works by French composers. The programme continues with Stravinsky's colorful The Firebird, a masterful orchestral celebration and Stravinsky's first commission for Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, taking listeners through the enigmatic Berceuse to the Infernal Dance of Katschei and a brilliant finale.
