Richard Strauss’s Ein Heldenleben, meaning ‘A Hero’s Life’, is a grand and entertaining self-portrait of the composer, performed by a specially-expanded London Philharmonic Orchestra under conductor Robin Ticciati. The programme also features Sibelius evoking the Middle Ages and Norwegian violinist Vilde Frang performing Hindemith’s sardonic Kammermusik no. 4.
