Kika Sprangers: North Sea Jazz Compositieopdracht 2025
Saxophonist and composer Kika Sprangers presents her latest work: The Way Wilde Rivers Flow. The project is the result of the composition commission awarded to her by North Sea Jazz Festival 2025. For this occasion, Sprangers assembled a quintet of striking musical personalities: Alistair Payne (trumpet), Reinier Baas (guitar), Tijs Klaassen (double bass) and Jonas Burgwinkel (drums). Each of them brings their own sensibility to the ensemble, allowing friction and freedom to flow together effortlessly. Sprangers’ music is melodic, captivating and layered, as she demonstrated last year with her award-winning Large Ensemble in our hall. That album, (In)Finity, received an Edison Award in the National category in October. Now it’s time for her quintet: music that sparks the imagination and offers ample room for improvisation and personal expression.
