A vibrant afternoon performance by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Vasily Petrenko. The programme features Tchaikovsky's famous retelling of Romeo and Juliet, full of youthful energy and romance. Bertrand Chamayou joins as the soloist for Saint-Saëns’ exuberant Second Piano Concerto, described by one critic as beginning in church and ending at an orgy. The concert concludes with Rachmaninov's final masterpiece, the Symphonic Dances, a work filled with haunted waltzes and a powerful life force composed during the genius's time in exile.
