Mälkki Conducts Bartók
Susanna Mälkki leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a performance highlighting the works of Béla Bartók. Celebrated for her interpretation of Bartók's music, Mälkki conducts the Concerto for Orchestra, a piece that evolves from stately beginnings to a spirited conclusion, showcasing the various solo capabilities of the orchestra's musicians. The program also features Czech composer Miroslav Srnka's exploration of the symphony as a collective superorganism and Bohuslav Martinů’s Oboe Concerto. LA Phil's Principal Oboe, Ryan Roberts, takes center stage for Martinů’s piece, which blends lyrical passages with jazz-influenced rhythms and traditional Czech polka elements.
