Hailing from the Los Angeles jazz scene, Eldad Tarmu embarked on his musical journey with a foundation in drums and percussion, later mastering the jazz vibraphone under the tutelage of Dave Pike. After earning his degree from Tel Aviv University, Tarmu returned to the U.S. and swiftly made his mark on the international stage, touring extensively across Europe and Asia. His debut album, Aluminum Forest (1997), and its follow-up, Get Up Close (2001), showcased his innovative approach to jazz. In 2005, Tarmu earned a Master's degree in Afro-Latin Music from California State University, Los Angeles, and was appointed Head of the Jazz Department at the Jazz School of a university in Romania. His academic pursuits continued at Stony Brook University, where he obtained a second Master's degreem, in Classical Composition in 2012, followed by a Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Performance, under the mentorship of Ray Anderson. In addition to his steady presence on the New York music scenes, Tarmu currently teaches Music Studies at several colleges. His expertise extends beyond the classroom, as he conducts jazz clinics and workshops at festivals and music camps worldwide. Recently, Tarmu has focused on creating contemporary classical music for chamber ensembles and vibraphone. His artistry is endorsed by Zildjian and Mike Balter Mallets, cementing his status as a distinguished figure in the world of jazz and contemporary classical music.
