American tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton and the Rein de Graaff Trio are long-time musical traveling companions known for straight-ahead jazz of the highest level. Their collaboration has previously resulted in acclaimed live recordings. For this special performance at LantarenVenster, they are joined by Belgian guitar legend Philip Catherine. While many of his contemporaries turned towards free jazz or fusion in the seventies, Hamilton found inspiration in the swing and bebop traditions of the thirties to fifties, echoing masters like Ben Webster and Zoot Sims. Pianist Rein de Graaff has accompanied dozens of American jazz icons, and Philip Catherine has been at the forefront of European jazz since the sixties. Despite being 83, Catherine's dedication and fresh approach to his instrument remain undiminished.
