Pieces of a Dream

Emerging out of Philadelphia's music scene in 1976, Pieces of a Dream took their name from a Stanley Turrentine cover. The group gained early popularity as the house band for a local television show before being discovered by jazz legend Grover Washington, Jr., who signed them as the first act for his production company. The band firmly established their place in smooth jazz with a series of successful albums in the early 1980s, including their self-titled debut, We Are One, and Imagine This. Their sound defined the musical essence of the smooth jazz radio explosion with hits like Warm Weather and Mount Airy Groove. Over their career, they have continued to record and perform, moving from Elektra to EMI/Blue Note for subsequent releases.
