A nostalgic, slow-burn classical night.
Herbert-von-Karajan-Straße 1, 10785 Berlin, Germany
Meditative, spiritual, unique: Joseph Haydn composed seven instrumental movements for the Good Friday tradition of the Andalusian city of Cádiz, which poignantly recreate the last words of the crucified Jesus. Each movement draws on the melody and rhythm of the Latin text and unfolds a dense, imagery-rich sound world. The climax is an expressive conclusion that stirrings depict the earthquake after Jesus' death. As part of our Biennale Zeichen & Wunder, members of the Berliner Philharmoniker interpret this work in the version for string quartet.
