A raw, underground contemporary jazz night.
Since 2001, Ronin has served as the missing link between minimal music, jazz, zen meditation, and Eastern martial arts. Swiss pianist Nik Bärtsch creates intricate structures called 'modules' that evolve into surprising rhythms and grooves. Their performance style, known for ritual groove music at the intersection of funk and jazz, evokes comparisons to minimal techno and electronic music. The group features long-time members Sha on bass clarinet, Kaspar Rast on drums, and newest member Jeremias Keller on bass. Celebrating over twenty years of collaboration, the band recently released their album SPIN, marking their thousandth concert milestone.
