A nostalgic classical night.
The legendary and resilient Herbert Blomstedt conducts the Orchestre de Paris in a programme featuring the final symphony of Joseph Haydn and Jean Sibelius's lyical and modern Fifth Symphony. Haydn's Symphony No. 104, known as the "London" symphony, was premiered in 1795 with massive success and is built upon a cohesive organic structure across its four movements. In contrast, Sibelius's Symphony No. 5, composed during the Russian Revolution, is characterized by its heroic optimism and the famous "Swan Call" theme in the final movement, which has influenced various musical works across genres.
