An underground, nostalgic jazz night.
Pianist, composer, and arranger Joel Forrester is a key figure in the New York Downtown scene and renowned for his work in silent film accompaniment. Having composed over 1,200 tunes, he previously co-led the Microscopic Septet and was a member of groups like Private Life and The Illustrious Others. Forrester is famously the composer of the theme song for NPR's 'Fresh Air with Terry Gross'. Mentored briefly by Thelonious Monk, Forrester has developed a compositional style described by critics as eclectic, witty, and deeply rooted in the jazz tradition. He remains an active performer in both New York and Paris, frequently appearing at prominent venues including the Brooklyn Museum and Anthology Film Archives.
