Gewandhausorchester: Beethoven's Piano Concerto No 4 & Symphony No 7
A mainstream, nostalgic classical night.
The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, which played every Beethoven symphony during the composer’s lifetime, performs the thrilling Symphony No. 7 and the introspective Piano Concerto No. 4 with soloist Lang Lang. Under the baton of Andris Nelsons, the evening also features the UK premiere of a Beethoven sketch for an orchestral overture, completed by composer Jörg Widmann as a tribute to Bach. Wagner famously compared listening to the Seventh Symphony to visiting paradise, particularly noting its celebrated second movement.
