A nostalgic, slow-burn classical piano night.
The award-winning pianist Arcadi Volodos returns to the Barbican Hall for a personal and deeply introspective recital. The performance begins with one of Schubert’s most serene piano sonatas, moving from meditative tones to the composer's characteristic dreamy style. The programme then explores the human psyche through Chopin’s works, reflecting an intense longing for his native Poland. The evening concludes with Chopin’s Second Sonata, a piece inspired by patriotic sentiment that delves into themes of love and death, famously featuring a funeral march.
