Oriol Marès
An underground jazz artist.
Oriol Marès (1998) is a clarinet player born in Barcelona and currently based in Rotterdam. His work is centred in the sound of the clarinet, aiming to showcase the richness of the instrument. Improvisation, enthusiasm and authenticity are the main forces which are embodied in every step he takes in his musical career. He graduated with a cum laude in Latin Clarinet at Codarts – University for the Arts under the guidance of Alex Simu. He collaborated with the artist Antoni Miralda, in Santa Eulalia 175 and co-composed the sound installation for El Bulli 1846, in the project Sant Stomak. He has toured with Amsterdam Klezmer Band, performing in Czech Republic, Germany, France and The Netherlands. In 2023, he was part of Yara's Wedding, a project with Asko|Schönberg, Club Guy & Roni, Slagwerk Den Haag (NITE) and Schauspiel Hannover. He also collaborated with Mr Pauer, in Viento y marea. In early 2024, he explores the vibrant music scene in Cuba, courtesy of the esteemed Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds scholarship. His two main projects consist of Cinco en Clave, a Latin-Jazz quintet that recorded for Dutch National Television and performed in GrachtenFestival, that now will release their debut album Turpial Guajiro, and Oriol Marès & Talal Fayad Quartet, with whom they have a busy touring schedule for 2025, including Spain, Italy, France and The Netherlands, presenting their new album Estuarium.
