A raw, underground pop artist.
Joseph Trem and his piano have become synonymous at this point. “Whenever I feel something, I sit down at the piano and write it,” he told A&R Factory in 2023, and it’s clear he’s dead serious. Take the raw, contemplative “Ruminations”: Trem’s voice sings over a soft, emotive piano line, bringing the listener directly into his world. His dark, straightforward lyrics and concise instrumentation ensure that nothing comes in between him and the listener; if it sounds like he’s singing and playing directly to you, it’s because he is. Trem began writing and producing music at the age of ten, with little more than a Casio keyboard, a laptop, and a dream. To this day, the room in which he writes his songs also doubles as a cat room, complete with a cat tree, scratching post, and litter box. These conditions have contributed to a palpable homemade quality to his music. Stereo Stickman was onto something when it called Trem’s music “deeply personal and divinely organic,” in 2023. Even as Trem has garnered more and more acclaim, he has never lost the core of what made him so appealing in the first place: he’s an artist that captures profound, innermost feelings and conveys them in an unbridled way. New single "Freud" out now.
Joseph Trem creates intimate, piano-led pop and indie pop, characterized by raw, contemplative lyrics and a homemade production quality.
