Masahiro Motoki (本木雅弘 Motoki Masahiro, born December 21, 1965 in Okegawa, Japan) is a Japanese actor. He portrayed protagonist Daigo Kobayashi in Departures, which won the 81st Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film. His performance earned him the Award for Best Actor at the 2009 Asia Pacific Screen Awards, at the 3rd Asian Film Awards and at the 32nd Japan Academy Prize.
Masahiro Motoki is a Japanese actor and former member of the idol group Shibugaki-tai, widely recognized for his transition to serious dramatic roles in acclaimed cinema.
He is best known for his performance as Daigo Kobayashi in the Academy Award-winning film Departures and for his role in the international hit Shall We Dance?.
His role as a cellist-turned-mortician in the 2008 film Departures brought him international recognition and the Japan Academy Prize for Best Actor.
