J. Lee Thompson was a prolific English filmmaker who transitioned from British social realism to directing major Hollywood action and suspense productions.
He is best recognized for directing the war film The Guns of Navarone, the psychological thriller Cape Fear, and several installments of the Planet of the Apes franchise.
While his later career focused on commercial action, crime, and adventure films, he began in the UK with notable social dramas.
