An acclaimed, spectacular music.

i was enjoying this so much until audrey hepburn kissed fred astaire's old shrivelled face and i felt attacked
This could be so much better if there wasn’t any romance: astaire and hepburn don’t share any chemistry, the romance itself is rushed, doesn’t make sense and honestly isn’t romantic in the slightest, and it’s not what the film should be about. The first portion of this film is absolutely fantastic. Amazing music numbers and choreography, the songs are good, and the colours! the cinematography! everything about it is perfect and unique. However, the last half of the film really drags it down and lowers its charm. It becomes less about the music, the story, and Jo Stockton, and more about the non existent romance and jealousy between audrey hepburn and a man 30 years older than her. They would’ve been much better off as friends, it felt like that’s practically all they were anyway.
The film follows a shy bookstore clerk who is discovered by a fashion photographer and whisked off to Paris, where she navigates the modeling world and discovers romance.
Stanley Donen directed the film in 1957, a filmmaker celebrated for his significant contributions to the Hollywood musical genre.
The film received four Academy Award nominations, including recognitions for its cinematography, art direction, and costume design.
