My 2000th review. Let’s get nostalgic.When I was a kid growing up in northern New Jersey, one of our family television staples was channel 7’s (ABC) “4:30 Movie”. As I recall, their lineups often featured sci-fi and horror, and each week had a theme. Monster weeks were a staple, but they’d run (for example) a week of Vincent Price, a week of Planet of The Apes, and yep, a week of Sci-Fi. This is where I consumed a vast portion of weird cinema, including The Green Slime.This one’s special because it feels 100% like a Godzilla production but in fact it’s 50% - Toei of Japan provided the crew and US studio MGM the American cast. That means you get the best of both worlds: those signature Toei miniatures and rubber monsters infused with the swagger of American actors Richard Jaeckel and Robert Horton.The story is a simple “aliens on a space station” tale, where these Americans (and one Italian woman) must find a way to stop a rapidly reproducing, squealing, tentacled rubber alien horde.Worth watching for the funky opening and closing theme song!
