I’m still trying to figure out what qualifications Anna Nicole Smith’s character has that enables her to attempt to save the day in the Die Hard concept flick, Skyscraper. Maybe, it is her helicopter flying skills? Or, her way with words? Perhaps, it is her wardrobe or the way she sheds her clothing? Damn, it is like I’m trying to crack the Di Vinci Code. The lead bad guy quotes Shakespeare the entire movie. The rest of the goons look like a cross between American Gladiators and the baddies you would see in an Andy Sidaris movie. There’s a security guard straight outta Mayberry, erotic dreams, nut shots, Big Wheel racing and long falls. The gunplay is awful. Lots of bullets, but most miss their desired target.I’m a sucker for Die Hard concept movies, films starring Playboy Playmates and human trainwrecks. Lucky for me, Skyscraper fits all three categories. Surely, that’s worth 3 stars?
The dumbest, cheapest, hottest version of Die Hard featuring a barely watchable Anna Nicole Smith, who, to my surprise, the movie actually keeps primarily in clothing until when she needs to engage in some really uncomfortable sex scene that appears practically directed by Tommy Wiseau, or at least inspired him for the same scenes in his magnum opus The Room. It's evident that this picture was not made for the accolades or merit. It seems like a less explosive and exciting version of a Canon Group picture in many aspects, which is disappointing since the studio could have given it more bombastic action, which would have made it cooler. At points, the quality is such that it seems more like a satire than a knockoff of the picture that ignited Willis' career. The dialogue might be cringey at times, but there are some humorous lines and the horrible acting. Anna Nicole Smith's acting is terrible; if I had to choose, I'd say she makes Pamela Anderson's seem at least People's Choice Award worthy; yet, I believe she was fine for a film like this. All in all, if you're looking for bad but fun entertainment, I'd say it's worth watching.TODAY SCHEDULEMr. and Mrs. SmithSaboteurThe FurySkycraper
