i know it's dumb but this is probably the only movie ever made that really makes me feel like everything's gonna be ok. because you can't control how fucked up the world gets, but you can control yourself. there will be giant sewer demon dog creatures but there will still be punk clubs and cute girls. it can be an adventure instead of the apocalypse. you can be a detective instead of a cannibal. you will find your trenchcoat. you will tell the elders who left you to die to fuck off. when you come out of quarantine the aspect ratio is going to change. the whole ugly barren world will open up like a sunrise.

40s private eye pulp enters a lucid, nuclear 80s neon synth dream world of what I can only reductively describe as Walter Hill's Mad Max. A ("post-nuke") rock opera noir filled front-to-back with beautiful girls, smoking guns, mutant cannibals, vulgar armed child gangsters, musical clubs, giant radioactive rats, explosive slomo gunfights in a neon fog machine haze. Pyun puts more sincere, beautiful dorky fun on the screen than filmmakers working with 20 times his budgets could muster. Probably really only a movie for people that think Streets of Fire is the greatest movie but luckily that's me. I mean it ends on the heroes uniting the post-apocalyptic gangs with dancing. But what are the chances of a Kino Lorber or Vinegar Syndrome Blu Ray/4k anytime soon?
