Mothra's fairies arrive and are aided by the journalists in a plea for its return. We all know it's just miniatures being stomped by a guy in a rubber suit, but this looks so good, and it's so entertaining and sincere, that it's easy to forget that. Tiny twin fairies sing to a giant egg, a moth and two larvae beat a giant killer lizard and somehow it all seems legitimate and dramatic. To laugh at this would be missing the point - the power of creativity, good ideas, good characters and emotional investment that can take a film from ridiculous to great.
