In 2093, filmmaker Kuve travels to Umata to document the aftermath of a war that revived ancient kingdoms. There, he meets Mumbi, who challenges him to make his film without the use of AI. As Kuve searches for his own voice, he begins to realize that even in a broken world, beauty can be found in the small human moments we often overlook.

a film heavily relying on AI set out to show how AI fails to make a good movie. successfully. interesting to see how even in times of highly developed technology usable by everyone you cannot hide that a film is still cheap. especially when you have nothing to say really.pretty weird seeing Dario Argento on stage before this screening, getting an award that wasn't really anywhere announced. could not have been a more awkward fit.
Many reviewers have hyper-focused on the film’s use of AI, which I believe is an interesting discussion to be had, but only alongside the context and content. Yes, the film uses AI, but as a means of democratizing the filmmaking process. More importantly, the film is very open about it and also chooses to use it as an opportunity to re-emphasize the importance of the human element. At the end of the day, it’s an anti-AI film that had to be made with AI, which adds an interesting yet admittedly troubling meta element to it and offers another perspective to the wider conversation. As someone who is anti-AI, I find it difficult to articulate how I feel about this film: to write it off entirely is unfair, but I can’t say I support all the creative decisions made.AI aside, Memory of Princess Mumbi is original, bold, and full of life; you can feel the heart put into this film and it was a pleasure to watch.
