Grill, Interrupted. Kind of a masterpiece! Floored by how well Early rides the line of sincerity and comedy without ever making Maddie the butt of the joke. In a worse director's hands, this could've been a disaster. Looks beautiful too! Kristen Johnson is terrific (and maddening) but I can't believe Elizabeth Berkley or Toni Colette did not play Beverlee. Cannot imagine what it's like to go into this not knowing these actors/the tone they're going for. Sudden silent cameo from Sky Ferreira caught me off-guard. As did every shot of Los Angeles that was filmed five minutes from my house.
