It's the Schindler's List of cat movies!!! Ok it's not really. This is actually a very cute documentary about this woman from the Midwest who takes it upon herself to try to form a one woman rescue op for as many cats as she can take back to the U.S. from the city of Doja in Qatar. A city that we are informed has as many stray cats as people in terms of population. Short answer as to why that would be is that this city has a lot of transient employees who come from and ultimately leave to other cities and they don't take their pets with them when they depart so the cat population there just exploded and now it's as much the cats' city as it is the humans. Our protagonist takes it upon herself to research various individuals who have accumulated a lot of stray cats and given them places to shelter and as we follow her around to each place we see them all pleading with her to take more than she can. She's determined to take a couple from each location she visits but she can't take more than like two per place. One woman's just like begging her "come on please take 4" (what are they DVDs?) I got the sense that in order to avoid being overwhelmed she just took the first couple she met with names. (They all have names....the best is probably the one named Dr. Garfield....I would trust him, he's a doctor)Ummm content wise there's not too much more to this than "look at this cat, look at that cat, look at this cat over here!" There's plenty of footage of the city, she travels by cab everywhere and makes conversation with the various drivers many of whom are Muslim and they all stress how much they love cats (the prophet loved cats) and how clean they are compared to dogs in terms of germs and hygiene. Um but yeah most of this revolves more around the cats at the expense of any one individual tho I suppose you get a good strong sense of our protagonist just from following her around and watching her interact with everyone but she's like the classic we'll meaning but trying not to be in over her head American. It's endearing for what it is tho which is a look at all kinds of and manner of stray cats and the itinerant problems that some individuals in that country have taken upon themselves trying to care for as many of them as best they can without any help from the government or city officials who offer no help beyond kill shelters. Yikes. Who knew cats were a big part of Qatar??? Honestly the government there should load up that giant plane they're giving to Trump with cats before they give it to him!CATS!!! (Sneezes profusely) THANK YOU JUSTIN FOR TAKING ME TO THIS!!! (As I said before there's no way I would've ever seen this otherwise unless you know it got assigned to me for tradefest lol) (Tradefest???)I almost forgot to say what I said to Justin at one point. "In America the streets are paved with mice"Also I'm not gonna lie....Stray Cat Strut did play in my head throughout.
