A nostalgic orchestral night.
Two of Beethoven’s leading interpreters unite for an illuminating journey into the composer’s world. Rudolf Buchbinder, a authority on the Viennese style, performs the second leg of a full piano concerto cycle. Although published as No. 2, this was the first piano concerto Beethoven wrote, showcasing his mastery of the Mozartian style. The program features the Third Symphony, 'Eroica', a revolutionary work originally intended to honor Napoleon before the composer rescinded the title. Brimming with emotion and Enlightenment ideals, this heroic work continues to enthrall audiences more than two centuries after its creation.
