Donny McCaslin Live at BIMHUIS Amsterdam
A raw jazz night.
A whirlwind on saxophone; that is a fitting way to describe tenor saxophonist Donny McCaslin. He gained widespread recognition as bandleader on David Bowie’s final album, Blackstar, and drew inspiration from this album to develop his own, boundary-pushing sound: a hybrid of jazz and art rock. This genre-transcending direction is clearly audible on his last two albums. Blow (2018) revolved around searing electric guitars and provocative lyrics. I Want More (2023) was an instrumental explosion of electronics, post-rock, and jazz. He now presents his new album Lullabies for the Lost with an all-star band: pianist Jason Lindner, bassist Tim Lefebvre, and drummer Zach Danzinger.
