Kurt Buttiġieġ & Dimitris Chiotis
A musical meeting where the electromagnetic synthesizer, sampler, and ambient atmospheres of Maltese artist Kurt Buttiġieġ meet the electric lyra and modular effects of Dimitris Chiotis. Kurt Buttiġieġ is an experimental sound artist and linguist whose work explores memory, language, and materiality. His sounds have been described as "a well of time" and "eerie musique concrète." He works with repurposed media, field recordings, and amplified objects to transform electromagnetic fields into fragile melodies. Dimitris Chiotis is an ethnomusicologist who has studied various Middle Eastern instruments including the oud, rubab, and kamancheh. He focuses primarily on the Cretan lyra, for which he has designed a modern electric version that offers new sonic possibilities.
