Rituals of the Last Dawn: Saba Alizadeh Live at Mezrab Amsterdam
“Wordless sun-chants of trembling intensity and luminous depth.” Bad Alchemy Magazine, April 2026 Rituals of the Last Dawn is the new album by Saba Alizadeh, created in collaboration with Pietro Caramelli and Liew Niyomkarn, which will be released on vinyl by Karlrecords (Berlin) on March 20, 2026. “We live in an era where each dawn and dusk may be a beginning for some, an ending for others. This work is an offering to every sunrise that lifts us and every sunset that humbles us. A meditation on cycles of light, fragility, and impermanence.” Comprising two live-recorded pieces, the album moves between tradition and abstraction, resonance and stillness, transforming sound into ritual and listening into a space of presence. “First Ritual” features Saba Alizadeh with Pietro Caramelli (electric guitar/electronics), while “The Last Ritual” brings Saba together with Liew Niyomkarn (lap steel guitar/electronics). At the center of both works, Alizadeh’s kamancheh carries a breathing, human tone through shifting electronics, prepared guitar, and lap steel, unfolding a sonic landscape that is both meditative and alive. Rooted in improvisation yet shaped by a strong compositional framework, the music blends electro-acoustic textures, kamancheh, prepared electric guitar, and live processing into a deeply immersive sonic ritual. The project unfolds as cinematic, atmospheric soundscapes shaped by structured improvisation and dynamic shifts between resonance and stillness.
