Ben Wendel’s BaRcoDe
Inimitable saxophonist presents electroacoustic project with four vibraphonists. Canadian saxophonist Ben Wendel is no stranger to our stage. From his supergroup High Heart and the acclaimed Kneebody to his REFLEX concert with solo saxophone, dance, video and a web of lasers: Wendel has always embraced unorthodox projects. His latest venture, BaRcoDe, fits right in. Here he shares the stage with four leading vibraphonists: Joel Ross, Simon Moullier, Patricia Brennan and Juan Diego Villalobos. Ross is one of the defining vibraphonists of his generation. Moullier explores quarter tones and global influences. Brennan redefines the instrument and has worked with avant-garde greats such as Mary Halvorson and John Zorn. Villalobos adds Afro-Caribbean rhythms and electronics. With a colorful instrumentation, from marimba and vibraphones to glockenspiel and percussion, the quintet seeks and finds new connections between chamber music, minimalism and jazz.
