A nostalgic, slow-burn orchestral night.
As part of the Rituals festival curated by Esa-Pekka Salonen, this operatic performance explores the life cycle through a powerful combination of works. Director Peter Sellars and conductor Salonen journey through Schoenberg’s hallucinatory Erwartung and the moving "Farewell" from Mahler’s Das Lied von der Erde. These vocal explorations of loss and rebirth are bridged by Webern’s Five Movements for String Quartet, creating a program that transitions from deep emotion into a sense of eternity.
