Schumann’s Third Symphony
Conductor Paavo Järvi leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic in a performance featuring Robert Schumann’s Symphony No. 3, nicknamed the 'Rhenish.' The program captures Schumann’s joyful period in Düsseldorf and Cologne with an animated and lyrical interpretation. Violinist Vilde Frang performs Bartók’s darker second violin concerto, a rhapsodic work infused with Hungarian folk tunes and the ominous atmosphere of pre-World War II Europe. The evening opens with 'Wand’ring Bark' by Estonian composer Helena Tulve, whose contemporary style is inspired by organic natural patterns and synchronicity.
